Screen Rant: Filipino Mythology Gets Supernatural

As Filipino American History Month is underway, Kwento Comics and Clover Press are partnering on a Kickstarter for The Mask of Haliya: Heir to the Warrior Moon, a graphic novel inspired by Philippine mythology. This debut release from new publisher Kwento Comics will be the first book in a series. Screen Rant has an exclusive preview of this young adult urban fantasy series from an all-Asian, all-female creative team.

The Mask of Haliya: Heir to the Warrior Moon is an Own Voices endeavor, a movement seeking to tell marginalized stories by marginalized creators themselves. A deluxe hardcover edition with slipcase features a special cover from artist Haining (Spirit World, DC vs. Vampires: All Out War). Writer Kaitlyn Fajilan says:

“It warms my little nerdy soul to think I get to write a fantasy series starring characters who not only look like me—something that would have been beyond my wildest dreams as a Pinay weeb growing up in the ‘90s—but who also share the same cultural history and traumas that I and my Filipino peers have experienced.
